About Us

Founded: 2010

Mission:
PAWS is a 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to saving and improving the lives of the shelter animals at the Pampa animal shelter.  We make adoptions, reclaims and transfers of animals to no-kill rescues happen, and provide lifesaving vaccines and medical care for at risk animals in the shelter and community.  PAWS encourages, educates and runs a low income spay/neuter program to reduce the number of unwanted pets.  We provide a path towards loving, forever homes through responsible pet ownership.

Short Story

In September 2010 a city meeting was held to discuss the possibility of a new shelter.  Several people attended this meeting.  It didn't take long for most of us to realize this project was not going to happen any time soon.  After the meeting several people met and decided we would form an organization.  It only took one more meeting for PAWS (Pampa Animal Welfare Society) to be created.  We have some dedicated volunteers that took this project very seriously.  The city shelter was a dump, and it was neither safe nor healthy for the many unwanted animals in our community.  We began pushing adoptions, reclaims, and the amount of time an animal was held at the shelter.  From there we began our Low Income Spay/Neuter program with the help of grants and community donations.  Two years and 6 months later we were breaking ground on a new shelter!  The City of Pampa worked to come up with the funds through a maturing bond, and it was then put on the ballot to see how the  public felt.  The new shelter was voted in favor of by 71%, and was the largest turnout in the history of elections for Pampa.  This would not have been possible without the many volunteers that went door to door to help people realize the condition of the old shelter.  Most of all, this would not have been possible with the support of the citizens of Pampa!

We look forward to the future!
